A power of attorney for minor children is a form that you can fill out and notarize to give another adult legal authority over your minor child for a temporary period of time. In the state of Utah, this is capped at 6 months. This can be great if all of a minor children’s guardians are going to be gone on a trip. You could also fill it out prior to a surgery for which you might have a prolonged recovery or for any other reason.

I had some clients who were on vacation and out of cell service when their son got injured. The doctor was legally required to get consent from their son's guardians before he was able to treat. This caused a lot of stress for everyone involved since my clients were out of cell range. Instead, by delegating this decisionmaking authority to the caregiver eft in charge of your children in your absence, the caregiver would have been able to get their son the treatment he required immedlately.

I always recommend that clients fill one of these out and leave it with the caretaker of their children if they are going on a trip. Access this document by going here.
